Hafilat recharge means adding money or a pass to your Abu Dhabi bus card so the validator lets you board. It also covers the AED 150 limit, how long each top-up takes and what to do when the balance does not show.

We never ask for card details

A Hafilat recharge takes a minute at a machine and a few minutes online, but the two do not behave the same way. Money added at a machine shows on the card at once. Money added on the website or on TAMM shows after two hours. Pick the method that fits where you are, and you will not be stuck at the bus door with an empty card.

Quick answer: The fastest way to top up is a ticket vending machine or a recharge machine at a bus station, because the balance shows immediately. To recharge online, use the official TAMM service or the website hafilat.darb.ae and allow two hours.

ABOUT TOPPING UP

What Is Hafilat Recharge?

Hafilat recharge is the act of loading credit, or a travel pass, onto a Hafilat smart card. The card is the public bus payment card of Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi Mobility, the public name of the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), runs the system across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra.

You can load two different things. The first is a balance, which pays for each trip by distance. The second is a pass of 7 or 30 days, which gives unlimited trips for that period. Both sit on the same card, and you can hold both at once.

The official recharge page sets two rules that shape everything else. The card can hold AED 150 at most, and a recharged balance stays valid for 3 months from the recharge date. To keep it alive, use the card for travel or tap it on a sales and recharge machine before the three months end.

Before You Recharge: What You Need

Have these ready and the top-up takes less time:

  • Your Hafilat card, or its serial number from the back of the card for online methods.
  • A way to pay. A 2026 guide by Emirates 24|7 says machines take cash and debit or credit cards.
  • UAE PASS, if you plan to use TAMM.
  • Room on the card. If the balance is close to AED 150, add a smaller amount.

Where to Recharge Hafilat Card: Infographic

Hafilat card recharge methods infographic: six ways to recharge a Hafilat card in Abu Dhabi and how long each one takes

If you board within the next two hours, use a machine or an office. If you are planning tomorrow’s trip, any online route works.

How to Recharge Hafilat Card Online

The official recharge page names the DARBI website at hafilat.darb.ae as the online channel and says the balance is reflected on the card after two hours. The steps below follow what the portal asks, and they are the same for any online Hafilat recharge: a Hafilat card online recharge and a Hafilat bus card recharge online both need only the serial number from the back of the card. Labels can change, so follow the words on your screen. If the website does not load, use the TAMM service in the next section.

Hafilat Recharge Online on the Official Website

Type hafilat.darb.ae into the address bar of your browser.

Do not click an advert, and check that the address starts with https and spells the domain exactly.

How to recharge Hafilat card online step 1: open the official website hafilat.darb.ae

Choose the Recharge Card service on the home page.

It is the service that asks for your card number on the next screen. If the home page looks different, look for a button or menu item with the word Recharge.

How to recharge Hafilat card online step 2: choose the Recharge Card service

Enter the serial number from the back of your card.

Then choose an amount that keeps your total at or under AED 150.

How to recharge Hafilat card online step 3: enter the card serial number and choose an amount

Pay with your bank card and save the receipt.

The balance shows on the card after two hours, so top up before you leave home, not at the bus stop.

How to recharge Hafilat card online step 4: pay, save the receipt and allow two hours

Note: the step screenshots are archived copies of the official site from 2022 and 2023, and the site may not open from outside the UAE. The portal can change its layout. If it asks you to sign in or sends you to TAMM, follow the TAMM steps in the next section. They are official too.

Tip: recharge online the evening before you travel. Two hours is the official waiting time, so a top-up made at the bus stop will not help you board.

Can I Recharge Hafilat Card Online?

Yes. There are three online routes, and two of them are official.

  • hafilat.darb.ae: the DARBI website named by Abu Dhabi Mobility.
  • TAMM: the Abu Dhabi government platform, website or app.
  • Payit: a third-party wallet that lists Hafilat as a biller.
  • All three follow the same rule: the balance shows after two hours.

Passes are different. The official passes page lists machines and Customer Happiness offices as the places to buy a 7-day or 30-day pass, and it does not list an online option.

Hafilat Recharge Online Login

The DARBI website works with your card serial number, so you do not create an account there. TAMM is different: you sign in with UAE PASS first. Never type a UAE PASS password or a bank password on a page you reached from an advert.

Hafilat Recharge Online Free

The TAMM service page lists the cost as AED 0.00 with no additional costs, so you pay only the amount you add. Abu Dhabi Mobility does not publish a fee for the website or for machines. If a site asks for a “service charge” to top up, close it.

Hafilat Darb AE Recharge Online

Searches for “Darb Hafilat recharge” point to the same official domain, hafilat.darb.ae. Darb is also the name of the Abu Dhabi road toll system, so make sure you are on the Hafilat page and not the toll wallet.

TAMM Hafilat Recharge

TAMM has an official service called Top up Public Transport Card “Hafilat”. It needs no documents, it costs AED 0.00, and its terms say the top-up amount is reflected on the card two hours after the transaction.

  • Step 1. Open the TAMM Hafilat top-up service on the website, or the TAMM app, and sign in with UAE PASS.
  • Step 2. Open the Hafilat top-up service. Emirates 24|7 gives the path as Services, then Drive & Transport, then Top up Public Transport Card (Hafilat).
  • Step 3. Select your card, or enter the Hafilat card number.
  • Step 4. Select the top-up amount.
  • Step 5. Pay and keep the payment receipt.

A Gulf News guide says the balance appears at once on every channel. For a Hafilat card recharge the TAMM terms say two hours, and that is the figure to plan around.

Hafilat Recharge App

Three apps come up when people look for a way to top up from a phone. Only two belong to the government, and they do different jobs.

App Download (Android and iOS)

The official public transport app is Darbi, published by the Abu Dhabi Integrated Transport Centre. Its store listing says it supports Hafilat card top-up.

The listing also shows that the app was last updated in April 2022. If you do not see a recharge option after installing it, use TAMM, which has a current official service.

Darb vs DARBI: Which App Tops Up the Card?

DARBI (Darbi) is the public transport website and app: journey planning, bus timetables, the machine map and Hafilat top-up.

Darb is the road toll system. Its wallet pays toll gates, not bus fares, so money added there never reaches your bus card.

TAMM is the Abu Dhabi government services app. Its Hafilat service is the safest app route today.

Recharge by Payit Wallet

Payit is a third-party wallet from First Abu Dhabi Bank, not an Abu Dhabi Mobility service. Payit’s own guide gives these steps:

Step 1. Open Payit and go to UAE Bills & Recharge.

Step 2. Choose Hafilat and enter the serial number from the back of the card.

Step 3. Give the card a nickname and tap Register details.

Step 4. Choose an amount. Payit says it offers AED 10 to AED 100 per top-up.

Step 5. Confirm the payment.

Hafilat Recharge Near Me: Hafilat Card Recharge Machine Near Me

Machines are the quickest way to top up, and they are the only channels where the balance shows immediately. For machine types, places and fixes, read our guide to a Hafilat recharge machine near me. Abu Dhabi Mobility publishes a map of every machine, so you can find the nearest one before you leave.

Ticket Vending Machines (TVM)

Sales and recharge machines stand at bus stations and bus stops. They sell cards and passes and add balance.

  • Step 1. Place the card on the reader and leave it there.
  • Step 2. Choose the top-up option on the screen.
  • Step 3. Choose or enter the amount. Your total cannot pass AED 150.
  • Step 4. Pay. Emirates 24|7 reports that these machines take cash and debit or credit cards.
  • Step 5. Wait for the confirmation, then take the card and the receipt.

Tip: do not lift the card until the screen confirms the top-up, so the machine can finish writing the new balance to the card.

Recharge Machines at Bus Stations and Shopping Centers

Recharge machines add balance and passes. You find them at bus stations, bus stops and shopping centers, and the balance shows on the card immediately.

  • Step 1. Tap the card on the reader area.
  • Step 2. Choose the amount or the pass.
  • Step 3. Pay and keep the receipt.

MBME Recharge Machines

MBME kiosks sit in commercial centers and residential buildings. They are an official channel, but the balance shows after two hours, the same as an online top-up. Use them when you are not travelling straight away. MBME does not publish its steps, so follow the kiosk screen:

  • Step 1. Choose the Hafilat service on the kiosk.
  • Step 2. Enter the card details the screen asks for.
  • Step 3. Pay and keep the receipt until the balance shows.

Customer Happiness Centers

Staff at a Customer Happiness office can add balance, sell passes and permits, and fix card problems. The balance shows immediately. The official services page lists the offices as open on all weekdays from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and the Zayed International Airport office as open 24 hours.

  • Step 1. Bring the card, and your Emirates ID for a personalized card or a permit.
  • Step 2. Tell staff the amount or the pass you want.
  • Step 3. Pay, then check the receipt before you leave the counter.

Hafilat Card Recharge Locations in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra

The official list of Customer Happiness offices covers all three regions:

  • Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi bus station, Al Shahama, Mohammed Bin Zayed City (Mussafah) and Zayed International Airport.
  • Al Ain: Al Ain bus station.
  • Al Dhafra: Madinat Zayed and Ghayathi bus stations.

Lulu, Lulu Exchange, SPAR and Al Ain Cooperative Society appear on the official card page as places to buy a card. That page does not say they top up cards, so do not count on a recharge at the till.

Hafilat Recharge Monthly Pass

A pass replaces pay-per-trip fares with unlimited trips for a fixed period. The official passes page lists two, both valid from the date of purchase.

  • Step 1. Go to a ticket vending machine, a recharge machine or a Customer Happiness office. The passes page lists no online option.
  • Step 2. Place the card on the reader and choose the 7-day or 30-day pass.
  • Step 3. Pay AED 35 or AED 95 and keep the receipt.
  • Step 4. Check the end date on the screen so you know when to renew.

Unlimited Recharge: What It Really Means

People who search for an “unlimited” top-up or a “95 recharge” mean the 30-day pass. It gives unlimited trips for 30 days for AED 95, but it does not cover intercity services. An older page on the Abu Dhabi Mobility site still shows AED 30 and AED 80. The current passes page and the fare notice that took effect on 28 February 2024 give AED 35 and AED 95, so trust the price on the machine screen.

Recharge by Hafilat card type: anonymous permanent card and personalized card

Recharge by Card Type: Temporary, Permanent and Personalized

Abu Dhabi Mobility’s current pages list two cards you can top up, and both use every channel in this guide.

  • Anonymous card (permanent use): AED 10, valid 16 years, no documents. Add balance or a 7-day or 30-day pass.
  • Personalized card: free, valid 16 years, linked to your Emirates ID. It also carries the student, senior and people of determination permits.
  • Temporary or older cards: the current official pages do not describe a temporary card. If yours is not one of the two above, ask a Customer Happiness office before you pay for a top-up.

A balance can move from an anonymous card to your own personalized card with no transfer fee, at a Customer Happiness office. It cannot move from one anonymous card to another. Details are on the card services page.

Hafilat Recharge Balance Check

Always confirm that the money arrived. After a machine top-up, the new balance is on the screen and on the receipt. After an online top-up, wait two hours, then tap the card on a machine or read the bus validator when you board.

For every way to read your balance, including the website and the bus screen, see our Hafilat balance check guide.

Hafilat recharge balance check: read your balance first, then top up to AED 150 at most
Hafilat recharge limit, validity and update time: AED 150 maximum, 3 months, online top-ups after 2 hours

Recharge Limit, Validity and Update Time

These figures come from the Abu Dhabi Mobility recharge page and the TAMM service terms.

  • Maximum balance: AED 150 on the card.
  • Validity: 3 months from the recharge date.
  • Keep it alive: travel with the card, or tap it on a sales and recharge machine before the balance expires.
  • Refund: not available for any Hafilat card type.
Where you rechargeHow long it takes
Ticket vending machine (TVM)Immediately
Recharge machineImmediately
Customer Happiness CenterImmediately
MBME recharge machineAfter two hours
Website (hafilat.darb.ae)After two hours
TAMM website or appAfter two hours

How long does an online recharge take? Two hours, according to both Abu Dhabi Mobility and TAMM. Other websites quote 15 minutes, 24 hours or even 72 hours, but none of them cite a source.

Payment Methods, Minimum Amount and Fees

This is where unofficial guides disagree most. Every Hafilat recharge follows the same limits, so here is what is confirmed and what is not.

  • Official: the TAMM service page shows AED 0.00 and no additional costs. Check the total on the payment screen before you pay.
  • Confirmed: the cap is on the card balance (AED 150), not on a single top-up.
  • Reported, not official: machines take cash and debit or credit cards (Emirates 24|7, September 2026).
  • Third-party only: Payit says it offers top-ups from AED 10 to AED 100.
  • Not published: an official minimum top-up, Apple Pay or Google Pay support, auto top-up, SMS top-up and special offers.

One change is on the way. On 2 October 2026 the Integrated Transport Centre announced a new fare collection system with bank cards, digital payment methods and QR codes. No start date has been given, and the announcement does not say how it will affect Hafilat cards.

Hafilat recharge payment methods, minimum amount and fees: TAMM has no service fee and the card holds AED 150 at most

Common Hafilat Recharge Problems

Most failed top-ups, including a Hafilat recharge online that has not shown yet, come down to timing or the AED 150 limit. A quick balance check at a machine tells you which one it is. Find your problem below and follow the steps.

Common Hafilat recharge problems: not reflecting, online not working, money deducted, top-up rejected

Recharge Not Reflecting

  • Step 1. Check where you paid. Website, TAMM and MBME top-ups take two hours.
  • Step 2. After two hours, tap the card on a sales and recharge machine and read the balance.
  • Step 3. Still missing? Keep the receipt and call 800 555 or visit a Customer Happiness office.

Online Recharge Not Working

  • Step 1. Re-enter the serial number from the back of the card, one digit at a time.
  • Step 2. Try another browser, or switch between the website and TAMM.
  • Step 3. If the payment page keeps failing, use a machine. Do not pay twice.

Money Deducted but Balance Not Added

  • Step 1. Wait the full two hours before you act.
  • Step 2. Save the payment receipt or the bank SMS.
  • Step 3. Call 800 555 or go to a Customer Happiness office with the card and the proof of payment. No official page describes a refund process, so the office is the only route.

Top-Up Rejected at the Machine

  • Step 1. Check your current balance. A top-up that would pass AED 150 is refused.
  • Step 2. Add a smaller amount.
  • Step 3. If the card is not read at all, try the next machine, then ask an office to test the card.

Recharge History and Receipts

The official pages do not describe a top-up history screen. Your own records do the job: the printed machine receipt, the TAMM payment receipt and your bank statement.

Keep each receipt until the balance has shown on the card. If a top-up goes missing, the receipt is what staff at a Customer Happiness office will ask for.

Hafilat recharge history: machine receipts and payment receipts act as your record
Hafilat recharge customer care number: call the Abu Dhabi Contact Center on 800 555

Customer Care Number for Recharge Help

For a top-up that failed or a balance that did not arrive, call the Abu Dhabi Contact Center on 800 555. It is the number shown on the official recharge page.

  • Step 1. Call 800 555.
  • Step 2. Give the card serial number, the amount, the time and the channel you used.
  • Step 3. Ask for a reference, and visit a Customer Happiness office if they tell you to.

The official services page also lists 800 850 for lost and found and for fine grievances. Use 800 555 for card and top-up questions.

Mistakes to avoid when you recharge a Hafilat card: last-minute online top-ups, paying twice and using the toll wallet

Mistakes to Avoid When You Recharge

  • Topping up at the last minute online. The money takes two hours. Use a machine if the bus is close.
  • Paying twice. If the balance has not shown yet, wait. A second payment can push you over AED 150 or simply sit unused.
  • Loading more than you will use. A balance lasts three months, and refunds do not exist.
  • Using the toll wallet. Darb toll credit does not pay bus fares.
  • Trusting a lookalike site. Type hafilat.darb.ae yourself or use TAMM. A real top-up page never asks for your UAE PASS password.
  • Throwing away the receipt. It is your only proof if a top-up goes missing.
  • Buying a pass for intercity trips. Passes do not cover intercity services.

Final Thoughts

My advice is simple: use a machine when you travel today, and use TAMM or the website when you travel tomorrow. A machine top-up shows at once, while every online route needs two hours.

Keep the total under AED 150, load only what you will use in three months, and hold on to the receipt until the balance appears. Those three habits prevent almost every top-up problem.
